Why Don't Girls Generally Like Video Games As Much As Boys?

Generally speaking, girls don't. And I don't think it's necessarily an exposure thing (And if it is, only to a small degree) because in my experience girls that are equally exposed to video games just don't take interest in it. They just don't. My sister doesn't and she sees me play games all the time. She even has her own games that she plays once in a blue moon. Same throughout my family and all of my friend's families. So why don't girls like video games? (Generally- have to add that generally or this will turn into a politically correct forum of nothingness with no answers)Lots of good answers so far!

I play on PC, PlayStation 2, PSP, and Wii. I'm hoping there will be PS3 under the Christmas tree this year games game. I hope my husband reads this. : ) My oldest daughter who is 15 has never really cared for video games. My 7 and 6 year old daughters love the Wii and their Gamecube. Some girls love to play and some don't. Just like some guys love to play and some don't. ETA: Update. 15 year old daughter just came home from a friends house and has fallen in love with the Xbox 360 and Halo3. All this time we thought she didn't like video games but it was just a matter of having the right system for her. lol*Got to disagree with the guy below me about computers traditionally being a macho thing. Back in the early 80's (I was about 10 years old) I wanted an Apple Macintosh but alas, my parents weren't willing to spend ,000 dollars for my Christmas gift that year. So I got an Adam computer (ColecoVision) instead games game. That little system was kinda fun to program leopard spots video slots online. Still would have rather had the mac though. : ) I think the reason some girls might not be into computers and to a lesser extent video games may be the interest in Math/Science which in the past has been considered more of a male subject, while females where always considered better in English/Literature. Luckily that is changing. There are now more female engineers and computer programmers than ever before. Fun Fact:The first computer programmer was a female named Ada Byron (1815-1852).

I think it almost might be because a lot of games they see involve blood & gore, and that's just not for them. And they rather spend money on clothes or something free slots and video poker. Don't quote me on any of this, of course.

I love them and growning up all my friends played games as well. Acctually most of the girls played more then my guy friends. Maybe its just your circle or the people that you know. I don't really think that it is just a matter of exposer or not it is just a matter of who you are.

The tradition of sex-linked interests and pursuits still lingers to this day - i.e. boys like playing "rough" games, while many girls still prefer more feminine activities. How long this will last, I know not. (Personally, I think video games are a waste of time).
