Me and my boyfriend are planning a trip to vegas for my 21st birthday which is in august. I just have a few questions about planning for anyone who has ever been there. how much spending money is need say for a 4 day trip? how early should me book the hotel and our flights? should we try to book it together or seperately? any other tips about what to do? Which hotel do you recommend? I Am considering the MGM Grand & Planet Hollywood. Im Basically looking for a hotel less than 150 a night with nice rooms nice bathrooms and convient to get to places. good casino and food. an all around great hotel with good service.

I would advise that if you are 100% sure you are going to book it well in advance. I would book it together so it will be more likely that you get to sit with each other on the plane. The Mirage is really nice. Room rates are generally way higher on the weekends and I'm not sure when you plan on going so you should take that into consideration when looking at hotel prices. As far as spending money goes, it just kind of depends on what you plan on doing and what kind of person you are. I like to do things real big when I go to Vegas so I figure about 0/day for myself, but that includes drinking yourself stupid and what not.If you sign up for The Mirage's mailing list you should get some really good deals. I just got one, but can only forward it, as it doesn't have a url.

  • I just planned a trip to Vegas for my 25th birthday (side bar: we leave in 3 days, woo-hoo!).
  • We are staying at the New York New York because it's right on the strip, has a casino right in the hotel, plus a spa, lots of restaurants and rooms start about 0.
  • I found the site: www.vegas.com to be pretty helpful in planning our trip.
  • Good luck and have fun!

  • Hi,
  • I actually took my gf to Vegas for her 21st birthday.
  • Anyway for 0/night..you should have some decent options.
  • Anyway for airfare, I suggest booking your tickets together.
  • You save one the one-time fees, plus it's easier to keep your seats together.
  • (My most recent trip I had to book seperately because we wanted to leave at different times, but come back together, and it just made things more complicated, and a little pricier..not by much though).
  • I suggest checking these two websites for airfare.
  • www.kayak.com (which checks a masive amount of sites at the same time like orbitz, price line, nwa, alaska, etc.) and southwest.com as it's the only one not checked by kayak.com
  • For Hotel.
  • I recommend Flamingo.
  • It is my favorite for overall value.
  • Especially the Go Rooms!
  • newly rennovated, 42 inch lcd screen tv, mp3 dock..tv in the mirror of the bathroom.
  • The casino location is probably the best you can get right dead center strip, not to mention when you leave the casino..you're on the strip..no escalators and walkways to have to deal with.
  • MGM is large, but I'd prefer planet hollywood over MGM.
  • they are newly rennovated, a little more central than MGM.
  • They have less to offer in terms of restaurants and entertainment than MGM, but they still got good stuff..it's pricier at planet hollywood though.
  • Planet hollywood also has one of the top 3 buffets...basically same service, food and variety as Bellagio Buffet (which is #1)...okay a little less...but significantly cheaper.
  • MGM though has one of my favorite shows their..KA one of the top 3 cirque Du solei shows (tied with O @ Bellagio and Mystere @ Treasure Island).
  • Other tips: book your hotel DIRECTLY.
  • I know it may seem like you can save like -30 getting a package deal on southwest.
  • But when you book directly you have several advantages.
  • 1) you can cancel anytime without penalty up to 24 hours before check-in time.
  • 2) it's usually the cheapest rate 3) if the rate ever goes down you can call in and they'll re-rate you and/or beat it...4) if you qualify for their best rate guarantee (cheaper rate on orbitz/priceline/etc w/in 4-24hours) they'll match and beat the rate by 10-25%...it saved me 0 last time.
  • Also here are some other great websites:
  • www.yelp.com - great reviews on all restaurants, entertainment, clubs etc...by real people not critics.
  • www.napkinnights.com - good pictures of the night scene..so u can get an idea how to dress at night.
  • www.cheapovegas.com - good reviews on the casinos, pools, etc.
  • www.jackcolton.com - reviews on the night clubs, as well as hints and tips of how to get into clubs, as well as table contacts.
  • Oh lastly..how much money is needed...Factor in this:1) Taxi/monorail/etc.
  • 2) shopping3) Gambling4) Random neccessities (sunscreen)5) Food (quick lunches, brunches, and nice dinners)6) Entertainment (shows etc)7) night club admission/table/drinks8) emergency money (it happens).
  • 9) singles to tip just about everyone (dealers, drivers, cleaners)
  • It'll depend on each person..I honestly just bring as much as I can.
  • Sometimes it's 0-150 day...other times it's 0 a day...most importantly Have fun.
  • ~G
  • p.s.
  • Forgot to add..how soon to book.
  • Honestly most casinos and airline carriers have Vegas crowds down to a science.
  • They know 9 months in advance if it's gonna be a regular weekend, or busy, or crazy packed.
  • So the prices will stay the same majority of the year.
  • Of course they start rapidly rising for last minute travellers and of course big event/holiday weekends...right around the 3 month in advance period.
  • So to be safe..I always say book 3 months in advance or more to make sure you're prices don't start getting too inflated.when i book for vegas, i usually try the travel websites like expedia for the best deal they have to offer.
  • i then check the websites for the air carrier and the hotel to see if they have a better deal.
  • i have found it is usually at least cheaper to book this way.
  • i usually book about a month or less out, i went in february, and paid 5 for hotel and airfare (planet hollywood for three nights).
  • i would try ellis island for meals, they are relatively cheap and taste pretty good.
  • also try www.vegas.com for ideas on what to do.
  • if you want to see shows, stop by the half price ticket stores to get discounted tickets for most of the major shows.
  • use cash though, there is a surcharge for credit cards.
